Week 1 Reactions

There we go, boys- real football is back! Lots of excitement on the gridiron this week for some, lots of agony over injuries for many others. And how about those tight ends? That was pretty neat. Lets get into it.

Dingoes Ate My Collins over Adirondack Skinny Weiners: Both teams got out to hot starts after Thursday, with Gronk giving ADK an 11 point lead, but Travis Kelce quickly negated that TE advantage on Sunday afternoon. Then Chris Ivory got in on the touchdown fun and things started to look bleak for the Weiners:

After all this time wearing the BAMA, you've got to feel for Brad. Only Jeremy Hill provided some solace as the Weiners went on to score the lowest amount of points for the week. Our first injury casualty happened to DeSean Jackson here as well, making for a big bummer of a day. On the other side, the Dingoes have to be optimistic with four bench players outscoring his flex spot. The defense won't be scoring negative every week either, so the future is bright.

Darker Force over Redwood Chipalopes: Talk about adversity showing a man to himself. At the draft, the Force was down $30 right off the start and adopted a new moniker to give his team hope for the season. Darker Force was born, and my heavens did it work this week. With only the kicker missing out on double digit points, the Force grabbed our first Most Points For title. A couple of young studs in Nuke Hopkins and Jarvis Landry showed their eye for the endzone, with Hopkins making the most of his chances with two scores and Landry getting it done on special teams. Force stalwart Eddie Lacy paced the ground game, and Tom Terrific took out all his frustrations on the Steelers. The Chipalopes didn't make it close, but if you're going to throw up a sub-par game, it might as well be in a matchup you have no chance of winning. Two anticipated starters, Mike Evans and CJ Spiller, were both unavailable for action this week, which limited the team's options. Greg Olsen severely underperformed, and you can't be happy about Sammy Watkins' zero catch game (even with him on the bench). One bright spot was Percy Harvin, but Redwood is going to have to get better at RB, especially with Reggie Bush straining his calf, to get onto the left side of the W/L column.

Las Vegas Outlaws over Saskatchewan Rough Riders: The cheap, late adds for the Outlaws shined this week, as DeAngelo Williams, Austin Sefarian-Jenkins, and Carson Palmer all put up great games. Antonio Brown isn't going to stop putting up huge numbers anytime soon, and once Demariyus Thomas gets Peyton Manning to use a younger clone of himself, this team will be very dangerous. The Riders couldn't get anyone to go big, and the RB situation is troubling. Yet the priority focus has to be on the passing game, as the Riders were dealt a huge blow when their top two WR's went down. At least TY Hilton will be back in a few weeks, but losing Dez for most of the season seriously hurts playoff potential. Having Terrance Williams to plug into the lineup is one bright spot, and hopefully the team can build on that, make some trades, and survive. 

Roc City Super Dudes over Old Guys Club: The Dudes just missed out on Most Points For, but can't be too upset with this dominating performance. Those WR's, boy howdy. Jordan Matthews and Keenan Allen took full advantage of our PPR scoring and went off without getting into the endzone. Even with Beast Mode getting stuffed on a 4th and 1, and Matt Ryan throwing two picks, the team couldn't be deterred. Julio Jones proved that he will be the most valuable asset based on draft price this year, and the Old Guys had no answer for him. The Dudes do need to be concerned for CJ Anderson, especially with only a backup RB on the bench. I'm sure the Old Guys would have been kicking themselves for not playing former Buffalo Bill Stevie Johnson over Nelson Agholor had the score to the matchup been closer, but that's something that will improve going forward. Moreover, Ameer Abdullah proved his worth, and Tyler Eifert showed why he was a first round pick for the Bengals. Yeah, the loss stinks, but the Old Guys have things to look forward to, especially with Martavis coming back in a few weeks.

Touch My TD's over PB Pandemonium: Our closest matchup of the week, and the difference maker was probably... Kendall Wright? TD's flex option made the most of his action with his rookie QB and got in the endzone real nice. PB has to be disappointed with the Giants anemic offence, because had the Eli-ODB hookup made one splash into the endzone, Pandemonium would have taken the win. At least Alshon will be able to return to the lineup, and Joe Randle can take Ellington's place while the Arizona back is out. Get a TE and things can turn around. For the TD's, a number 2 RB has to step up, but that bench looks bleak right now. Hopefully this win and Blount's return can buoy this team in the near future.

Free iTunes $50 Gift Card over Fat Cats: We have our first victim of the schedule, as the Fat Cats would have beaten seven other teams this week, but fell to the newly christened Gift Card. Matt Forte and Jason Witten carried the Card, showing that age is only a number, at least this early in the season. The Cats' Carlos Hyde made this matchup closer than it really was, but the second year RB's performance has to be where the coaching staff will start in keeping a positive outlook for next week. The Josh Hill hype has died out, but the Cats were smart knowing about Captain Kirk's reliance on Jordan Reed in Washington. Hey Megatron, maybe not suck? Hopefully for the Cats his performance Week 1 was an anomaly. Something to keep an eye on for these two teams going forward is the two Titans on each one's bench. Can Bishop Sankey and Marcus Mariota keep it going in Tennessee? Let's find out.

Draft Report Card

2015 Season is Finally Here

As we report to training camp in preparation for the 2015 edition of the Equalizer Fantasy Football League, I thought we could all use a little BAMA update:

I am hoping to build off the blog from last season with some new content this year. As always, anyone that has any ideas or would like to write on the blog please let me know and I can add you as a contributor. I am going back to school starting in September so I likely won't be as active on here as I would like to be. Going to be too busy pushing the PB Pandemonium squad into the playoffs for only the second time in Equalizer league history. Looking forward to the draft next week boys!

The Equalizer FF League Championship Trophy

The Equalizer Fantasy Football League Championship pint glass (the Lombardi of Fantasy Football trophies) has been accepted by it's rightful owner, the Las Vegas Outlaws.

The championship glass was presented during an elegant ceremony hosted by George Lopez.

The GM of the Las Vegas Outlaws thanked the esteemed guests for attending. He pinned his success on the alliterative roster strategy that brought him the title on the backs Brees, Bell, Brown, Benjamin, and Bennett (excluding Ball). His speech ended with a promise, "... and I solemnly swear to protect this trophy, until at least the year 2130 when it may have to be melted down due to a worldwide Google Glass shortage."

 

End of Season

Boys, another Equalizer season in the books and it was a good one. We saw some shrewd management (Kaier, Froats) and some not so good (myself). We saw major suspensions and big time injuries, as well as the emergence of some future stars (particularly at the WR position). I would say this was one of the more memorable NFL seasons of late, and mostly for activities off the field (still waiting on that Goodell resignation after the arbitrator in the Ray Rice case essentially confirmed Goodell not only dropped the ball but was not 100% truthful in his comments regarding the investigation).

First of all, a congratulations is in order for Evan for surviving the failed Montee Ball experiment and starting Marques Colston at wide out at times. Of course the tandem of Brown and Bell in the Steeler black and yellow certainly helps, as well as the emergence of Kelvin Benjamin (on what still might be a playoff bound Carolina team).

However the main purpose of this post is to reach out to you guys for feedback on the blog for this season. I was a little inconsistent in getting content on here some weeks (you know, work) but as I get a better idea of what you guys would like to see it'll get easier. So give it to me straight boys, if it was all useless bull shit, please let me know. If you found some of it useful or entertaining, let me know that too. And I would gladly entertain any ideas for future content for next year, things you would like to see or see done differently. And as always, if you are interested in contributing, just provide me with an email address and I'll add you to the blog. Now let's raise our glasses to once again congratulate Evan on a well-deserved title, and to the forth-coming 2015 Pandemonium championship (it's all I want for Christmas)!!!

BAMA Watch '14- Week 14

Two weeks down and one to go before a new ankle is primed for ensnarement! Things were tight at the bottom last week, but the Chipalopes realized their dire circumstance and put together a very solid week. The Panties couldn't do the same, and stay fully secured in last place. Brad is going to need a miracle final week to jump ahead of the Rough Riders, who stand 48 points in front of a full year of shame. Those Chipalopes are only one point behind the Riders, so things could get interesting with any debacles between these two. The Old Guys and Pandemonium are more than guaranteed a pass this year, so breathe easy fellas. And how 'bout them Dirtdogs? Basement adjacent for most of this season, Andrew was able to whip his team into shape and avoid the BAMA for what would have no doubt been a devastating second straight year. So let's sit back, relax, and see how this whole crazy thing wraps up.
